« Sooner Or Later » is one of the first pieces I wrote for solo acoustic guitar, well over two decades ago.

To my ears it stands out as a unique and quirky composition, which evokes various moods and integrates different genres, and yet somehow manages to remain a coherent whole.

If my memory serves me right, most of the music date back to around the mid-1990s, with new ideas added here and there over the years.

Although I'm not sure that I had begun working on it back then, the piece reminds me of life at the Université Laval dorms, and of my beginnings as a musician. Looking back, those were momentous times for me. As the title suggests, it seems that soon into the process I had already intuited that music would be an essential dimension of my future. At that time, I was studying electrical engineering, I was also discovering my passion for music, exploring the possibilities of the guitar, bass, and synthesizers, and growing increasingly fascinated by progressive rock. I was also becoming aware of the pioneering work of some of the luminaries of the genre, Steve Howe in particular, whose playing influenced me tremendously during those fateful years.

Along with a few other originals such as « Escapades » & « Turning Point, » it shares the distinction of having accompanied me through the various stages of my musical journey.

This particular version was recorded in 2004, and fairy dusted in December 2021.
