about

« Ascent » is an instrumental piece which stems from ideas that came to me while watching « Jupiter Ascending » back in October 2016, and that I recorded on my phone at the time. They were then sequenced and developed at the end of June 2017 and in April 2018. As one of the pieces I was considering as an upcoming release in February 2020, it also evolved around that time, mostly through new guitar parts. When I returned to it later in September, my feeling was that something was missing to make it more interesting, and so I ended up adding a whole new section.

The piece is intended to serve as a reminder that ascent, that is, spiritual development, is the core necessity that drives the life of the individual, as opposed to the material world and its countless diversions. Thus, ideally, the piece works like a bell whose ringing prompts the individual to return to this primary concern.

In terms of structure and orchestration, the music was composed to illustrate spiritual growth processes, which typically consist of cycles that deepen and expand with each revolution, until a breakthrough point is finally reached and leveling up occurs.

As such, the piece also serves as a reminder that even when there is no substantial change in sight, unexpected breakthroughs are waiting on the wings.
